Fairfax Clerk Receives National Award Online

John T. Frey, the Clerk of the Circuit Court in Fairfax County , was recently honored with the Land Records Best Practices Award for 2007 by the National Association of County Recorders and Clerks (NACRC.)   The NACRC is a professional association of municipal deed recording offices and court clerk offices throughout the United States .  Nominations for the Land Records Best Practices Award were based upon a demonstration of developing programs related to electronic filing, automation, modernization of records, workflow methods and internet access to public records.

John Frey’s office received the 2007 award for the development of a Virtual Probate File program.   The Fairfax County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office automated the processing of probate documents and eliminated manual processes.  The virtual probate file program promotes improved accuracy and allows citizens to search for information about the probate process through a secure website.  Citizens can download probate forms from the secure website at their convenience without requiring a trip to the courthouse.  The forms can be completed remotely and filed with the clerk’s office as part of the probate process.

The Virtual Probate File program developed by John Frey and the Fairfax County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is one example of the technology improvements and program enhancements that clerks of circuit court in Virginia are developing and implementing to improve the delivery of court services to the citizens in the Commonwealth of Virginia .
